3. Why such a sentence to translate?
You see the word "boy" in English means "boy", but behind the identified articles (definite article) "the" the phrase "The boy" refer to, or referring to a boy that both the speaker & listener already knows - that is, "boy - boy" was determined. Therefore articles "the" - she called the articles identified. Articles usually come before nouns and determine if the articles (the) precedes the noun, the noun it has identified (the speaker and listener know what is that word?). So "The boy" translates as "this boy".
The verb "climbed" is the past of the verb climb (climb). Or another way of saying the verb climb in question is divided in the (then) past tense (simple past tense). Verbs are divided in the past simple expression (described) an action happened in the past and ended. Therefore action "climb - climb" the boy had happened in the past and ended.
But he was climbing something? Here we see modifiers (Object) in this sentence is "a tree". "A" here is an article (article) - but the indefinite (undefinite article). When the indefinite article (a, an) precedes a noun, the noun is not specified. That is the speaker and listener do not know where noun. "A tree" here, the word tree (the tree) trees do not know - just know that one tree only.
So the above sentence "The boy climbed a tree." which translates as "He had climbed up a (female) plants." Here the speaker and the listener knows who this boy, but he did not know how to climb trees.
If instead "a tree" = "the tree", the sentence: "The boy climbed the tree." means "He had to climb (a) plant it." Here the speaker and the listener knows that he is, and he knows how to climb trees.
